billy jones bluez "...the times and travels of an american bluesman."

SOUL-PATROL.com PRESS RELEASE : "As you all know, in my humble opinion, Billy Jones is one of the most compelling artists around on today's Black Blues music scene. This is something that I wish more artists should do with some of the outstanding music they have released and I am glad to see that Billy has taken that step. Look for 5 or 6 of these songs to make aContinue

Justin Lundquist THE EVER EVOLVING BAND...

Another opportunity for a great show this weekend and Son Jack. Jr. and the Delta Hothouse did not disappoint. They seem to get more and more comfortable playing together every time I see them. Every show has a new mix of songs and a load of energy. Michael lit the place on fire again with some amazing harmonica (I guess that's why they call him El Diablo). It is the second time I have heard him and Billy Barner do a really cool version of Parchment Blues... Son Jack played standing up for the f… Continue

Terrapin Tim Volem "Entitled"

Hey, Blues-ists- The lovely Karen Lovely- been getting some satellite radio airplay from Bill Wax on XM-Sirius's Bluesvilles station (exit 74, you know, on the blues highway), seriously. A sign that her time is nigh. So here's my tribute to Ms. Karen, who has gigged right here here in River City- that's Blue-gene, Oregon- twice in the last couple months. Listen up! Entitled The straight stuff - those roadhouse blues- filling the heart of a Friday night and Karen Lovely commanding the room as e… Continue

Terrapin Tim Volem "Floating Verses"

I b'lieve this one speaks for itself: Floating Verses "If the river was whiskey and I was a diving duck"- one of those speculations that surfaces within the work of the I and the IV and V chords, that medicinal blue pattern as familiar as breath. "Rather drink muddy water and sleep in a hollow log"- a definitive declaration of active rejection from the music Handy first heard in an open tuning with a table knife slide beside a railroad station. "Let me be your sidetrack until your mainline c… Continue

Justin Lundquist Son Jack Jr, Slim Jimmy D, and the everything else...

In the Wings...Share Today at 3:10pm | Edit Note | Delete Well, it was another great music filled weekend (at least Friday and Saturday). Friday, Jami, Jade, Jackson, and myself went down to Third Place Books and enjoyed another amazing Son Jack Jr. and the Delta Hothouse show. There were some surprises... Most notably when Michael did a tune as a duo with Billy Barner the drummer. The band seems to be getting more and more cohesive with every show and Son Jack seems to be finding his groove. I… Continue

Son Jack Jr 90 never felt so good

I'm not talking about my age, though somedays I do feel that way :-). The significance of 90 is that it is the exact number of days until the next Country Blues Workshop. It's hard to believe how time has flown in some regards, but in other regards, a LOT has happened since I last drove through the gates at Fort Worden. But I won't go into all that here. If you really want to know, you'll just have to meet me at blues camp :-) This year will be a bittersweet year given that the great Joh… Continue
